15 Science Fiction-Fantasy Prompts

Science fiction and fantasy are often considered genres that go hand in hand. You may even consider them two sides of the same coin, our imaginations exploring the future or the past.

Star Wars is one of the most popular franchises in the world and is probably the prime example of “Wizards in Space.” Sci-fi and fantasy blur together with spiritual elements and magic powers wrapped in fighting aliens and robots. That being said, I recently had a book exchange Secret Santa where I received a request for “something like elves in space.”

I looked around, but there weren’t many options for time traveling dwarfs or space exploring ents. To some, sci-fi and fantasy appear as opposites even where one has a science-base or the other a wonder-base, rules or whimsy, but the demand is there for something that smears these lines. The possibilities are limitless and the market is open! Here are 12 prompts to ignite your imagination for sci-fi fantasy pushed into one.

1. Beasts of the Darker Wilds: A ferocious demon lives inside a black hole and emerges to eat passing ships. No one can chase the creature back into its home, but they may just be able to lure it out to battle or perhaps even make a crossroads deal with the Demon of the Dark.
